DUNMURRY CRUISE INTO ROUND 2
After 5 weeks with no match Dunmurry Rec finally got back into action against Holywood Rec. With no less than 5 players unavailable (McMullan, Larkin, McDonnell, Napier and Corr) Johnstone chose to give a start to Colin Kerr (returning from 2 months out) and bring in young Chris Dickey who has been playing well for the reserves. Dunmurry Rec started the game on top and dominated the early part of the game. GOAL - On 5 mins great work by Walsh down the right saw him cross for Camlin to fire home. On 12 mins Leitch collected a poor clearance and fired a fierce shot which the keeper tipped over. On 17 mins a good layoff by Redpath but Tumilty shoots wide from 18 yards. On 23 mins Walsh goes through 1-1 with the keeper but he saves well when a goal seemed certain. On 24 mins Tumilty skips into the box and is upended for a stonewall penalty but Camlin sees his shot well saved by the Hollywood Rec keeper down to his right. 27 mins Camlin clean through fired wide. GOAL – 29 mins Redpath who was having a super game crossed low for Leitch to hammer home. On 32 mins Walsh volleys spectacularly from 20 yards and the ball cannons of the inside of the post. GOAL - On 41 mins a short corner sees Leitch swing a cracking ball in and Kerr rose highest to nod home into the top corner. On 44 ins Walsh blasted off the underside of the bar from 10 yards. GOAL – 46 mins another penalty and this time McErleane stepped up to rifle the ball home.
Dunmurry Rec 4-0 Holywood Rec
Hewitt who picked up a knock was rested so McClarnon came on in centre midfield. Fair play to Holywood Rec they came out fired up and were on top for the1st 10 mins of the 2nd half putting the Rec backline under pressure. 50 mins Chris produced an excellent stop when faced 1-1 with a Hollywood striker. Moments later again Kerr saves well diving to his right. On 62 mins McErleane took a knock and had to come off forcing a reshaping of the team. Rutherford came on in centre mid, Tumilty went to centre back with Fenton going to Right back. This disrupted the team somewhat and the game became scrappy. On 70 mins young Dickey made his first team debut in place of Paul Redpath. Both teams had more chances but it was Holywood who scored on 72 min with a peach of a free kick from 25 yards over the wall in to the top corner. The Rec got back on top for the last 15 mins and created a number of chances but couldn’t convert them
DUNMURRY REC 4-1 HOLYWOOD REC
Managers Comments
It was great to get playing a game after such a long break and the credit to Sam as the pitch was first class. Overall I have satisfied with the game today. We started really well, dominated the 1st half, went in 4-0 up despite having missed pen, hit the woodwork 3 times and missed 2, 1-1’s. We played some excellent football. In truth the game was well over at half time. In the second half we were very poor, work rate dropped, passing seemed laboured, we stopped doing the basics and fair play to Holywood Rec as they made a game of it. I cant be critical of the players as we made so many changes and had so many players out of their natural position that we were never going to play as well as we did in the 1st half. I thought McErleane was excellent in the 1st half and Redpath, Leitch and Walsh were dangerous going forward. It was good to welcome Colin Kerr back and young Chris Dickey showed that he can handle playing for the 1st team. I think it shows the strength of squad this year that we can be without 6 players but still have enough to comfortably do the business.Big game next week away to Killyleagh in the league.
