DUNMURRY REC CRASH OUT OF IRISH CUP
Dunmurry Rec travelled to Islandmagee with high hopes of progressing in the Irish Cup. Both Simon Fenton and Steve McDonnell were suspended, Paddy Larkin & Kenny Camlin (who was returning from his enforced layoff) were with the Reserves. Colin Kerr remained unavailable due to work. First chance of the game fell to the Rec on 4 mins when Walsh broke down the right and his cross is met tamely by Rutherford but the keeper blocked. On 6 mins Tumilty played in Corr but he fired wide. Islandmagee had some chances to in an open first 15 mins but it was the Rec who went in front on 16 mins when a free kick was flicked on by Rutherford and blasted home by McClarnon. The lead was short lived as 2 mins later Redpath was caught in possession in his own half and the through ball was missed by a Rec defender allowing the island player to control and finish. On 28 mins a great move by the Rec sees Walsh cut the ball back for Rutherford who blasted over. On 32 mins with the Rec now on top Rutherford collects a throw in, cuts inside the defender but sees his shot charged down. Island then had some chances with 2 efforts narrowly over the bar before they took the lead on 43 mins. A long throw was flicked on leaving an Island player completely unmarked at the back post with a simple task to find the net.
HT Dunmurry Rec 1-2 Islandmagee
The Rec came out strong in the second half but pressed the self destruct button on 53 mins when a ball over the top caused confusion between goalkeeper Kerr and defender McMullan with the 2 players colliding leaving the Island player the task of walking the ball into the empty net. It got worse a moment later when poor defending saw a shot deflect off a Rec defender and into the net to make the score 4-1. The Rec tried to respond and created a number of chances with Corr seeing a header well saved and firing 2 shots wide. Rutherford met a looping cross and headed just over while Tumilty fired over from 25 yards. Then on 71 mins a long pass up field found island No 7 and he rolled Hewitt and slotted the ball home to make it 5-1. Napier came on for Redpath, Ansley for McCusker and Faulkner for McClarnon. On 82 mins more misery when the Rec defence stopped for an offside that was not given and the Island player calmly finished for 6-1. On the final whistle Rutherford slotted home a penalty.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
I can only apologise to the supporters who travelled to Islandmagee and paid money to watch. It was a truly shocking second half defensive display, one for which I can offer no excuses. With Fenton and McDonnell both suspended I had no choice but to slot 2 new players into the back line. We spent 40 mins on Thur night working the back 4 but you cannot excuse the schoolboy defending. While I must give Islandmagee credit for quality finishing every single goal today was gifted by brutal individual errors and as a manager that is really hard to take. Too many players were well below their best. It was an open game, with chances created by both teams probably even and I have to say we passed the ball very well during spells but we deserved nothing from the game and Islandmagee thoroughly deserve to be in the next round. We knew it would be a very tough game. They were missing 2 influential players we were missing at least 3 but the way we defended today it would not have mattered who we had on the pitch. I was disappointed that a couple of the players took the bait that some of the Islandmagee players are renowned for dishing out. We warned them that they would be taunted by certain players and the sideline and unfortunately we were only too right, but our players must learn rise above such abuse… its an ugly part of the game but you have to deal with it. We really wanted a run in the Irish Cup but that is history now, so we lick our wounds, regroup on Tuesday night and look for a response next Saturday v Holywood in the league.
