Dunmurry Rec 2 V 1 Drumaness Mills
Team: Warnock Fenton McDonnell Kerr Larkin Rooney McClarnon Lennon Redpath Rutherford Arnott
Subs: Camlin Finnegan Larmour
On a good bright sunny day the Rec hosted Drumaness Mills to Ashley Park. Having watched the Rec last week the Mills manager McConnell was confident of causing an up-set.
The Rec started on the front foot and carved out an early chance when Rutherford
full of running cut inside and fires a shot which the Mills keeper blocks. Arnott
was next to create a change to open the scoring. McDonnell from mid field plays long
ball onto edge of box, the Mills keeper is beaten by Arnott who flicks the ball,
takes wide and his shot is cleared by the full back for a corner. It was all the
Rec at this stage and on 17 Fenton lays neat ball to Rutherford who delays his shot
only to see the defender close down and clear for a corner. Lennon was next to shoot
on goal when the visiting keeper makes a poor clearance
– ball falls to Lennon who
from 25 yds narrowly fires over the bar. Arnott who was holding the line well breaks
the off side trap and races towards goal only to see his shot come off the base of
the post. 22nd minute Redpath with superb foot work beats three defenders and when
one on one with keeper who gets a timely block to prevent a goal for the home side.
Another great chance goes a missing – Redpath wide on right over hits his cross when
Arnott & Rutherford were waiting to pounce. Lennon form 18 yds has shot tipped over
bar by the Mills keeper. Dee McClarnon cautioned for not retreating 10 yards form
free kick. Disaster for the Rec when on 43 minutes a Drumaness free kick is floated
to back post – ball not properly cleared falls to the no 8 who slams home for the
opener.
2nd Half
The Rec came out with all guns blazing after the injustice of the first half. The equaliser came in the 6th minute when Redpath on the right beats two markers floats ball to Rutherford who side steps his marker to plant home. 15th minute another chance falls to Rooney who running in unmarked narrowly fails to connect. Luck is definitely out for Arnott who in the 21st minute strikes the base of the post yet again. The match winner came on the 24th minute when a long free into box see Rutherford lay a neat pass to Lennon to side foot home.27th minute McLarnon is sent off for a second caution. This was closely followed by the Mills no 12 who was sent off for violent conduct when he bit Larkin in the face. Manager Moore made three quick changes as did the Mills. The game ended with the Rec in total control for the 90 minutes. Good character was show by the lads to come back from a goal down.
