The game played in great conditions and on a good surface had all the ingredients for an entertaining match. The game opened with an early goal scored by the goal scorer supreme Ricky Rutherford. The home team conceded a free 22 yards out from goal. Rutherford placed the ball and fired home on 1minute 42seconds.
The Rec continued to press forward and Redpath lays neat ball to Arnott on the edge of the 18 just as a shot was being lined up the Comber no4 made a great block to clear the danger. For the next 18 minutes the game became a stalemate with both sides only creating minor chances. Redpath it has to be said was in fantastic form and continued to dazzle the comber defence with some neat footwork.
34th minute see’s the referee deny Dunmurry a penalty after Arnott is clearly pulled inside the box. Combers best chance of the half came on 42 minutes when the No 7 narrowly lifted the ball over the bar.

2nd Half
Dunmurry created the next chance when poor Comber defending sees Rutherford release Redpath who only half connects with the ball. Comber were now exerting more pressure on Dunmurry and the Comber no7 went on a mazy run beating three Dunmurry players takes the ball to bye line and his shot is deflected for a corner. 14th min good work by Rutherford sees cross floated to Arnott to nod over bar. 16th minute Larkin cautioned. 18th minute Sub Hughes replaces Redpath. 19th minute A Comber goal looked inevitable but the no8 misses from 4 yards out. Comber were now pressing the Rec and forced no less than 5 corners over a shot period. Larkin and Kerr providing most of the clearances.
24th min Cautioned – McClarnon for late tackle. 25th min Cautioned Kerr for dissent. The Rec had lost composure and this was telling as the cautions were handed out by referee Moutray who overall allowed the game to flow. 28th minute Sub Rooney replaces Larmour. 29th minute The Rec keeper Warnock makes great block when one on one with Comber forward. 39th minute Rooney run through middle see his shot half hit. Comber again see two good chances go missing with the No9 to blame on both occasions. The Referee played almost 8 minutes of added time and the Dunmurry squad was relieved to hear the final whistle.
Overall a good first half where the game was taken to Comber. The second half seen Dunmurry on the back foot for most of the half. But credit goes to the keeper and back four for keeping a clean sheet under severe pressure.
