The game opened at a fast pace and it was Islandmagee who created the first chance. On 3 minutes the home cross bar rattled with a shot from 20 yards by the visitor’s no 8

For the next 15 minutes, the game was very even with both sides creating only half chances. The opening goal was scored on 18 when a poor clearance by Neil Larmour was picked up by the no 8 who ghosted into the box to slot home for the opener. Right away the Rec create a chance following a throw in to Arnott who slips ball to Rutherford whose shot is charged down and cleared. 30th minute sees another two half chances fall to he Rec. Rutherford cautioned for dissent by an over fussy referee.

38th min – a great cross by Ricky Rutherford is sent to the back post where Arnott when well placed should have done better with his finish.

41st min – Arnott opens the scoring after the rearguard is unlocked. A great finish by young Colin who has threatened for several weeks now.

 

2nd Half

 

4th min – McClarnon has a good run to bye line, cuts ball back to Arnott whose shot is well blocked by the Island keeper.

6th min – Arnott booked by an over fussy referee.

11th min – Rutherford free kick is superbly tipped round post.

13th min – Keeper Warnock makes a great block form Islandmagee No. 9

15th min – Rutherford on edge of the 18 slips ball to Arnott. First time shot is charged down when a goal looked certain.

17th min – Rutherford runs 30 yards to test the Island defence – shot is well saved by keeper

18th minute – Fenton crosses deep into box for Arnott to head wide off post.

25th min – Sub Rooney replaces Larmour

29th min – Fenton floats free kick to Rutherford who when well placed fires over bar.

31st min – Cautioned McDonnell for late tackle

32nd min – Sub Finnegan replaces Lennon

35th min – Good Pressure by Rooney sees Island defender stumble on ball, Arnott collects and heads goal ward. All was expecting a shot but as cool as you like he squares the ball to Finnegan who seals the match with a great goal.
