Border Regiment Cup – Round 2
Dunmurry Rec V Lisburn Rangers
Saturday 21st August 2010
Team: Warnock, McDonnell, Hewitt, Kerr, Fenton, Walsh, Lennon, McClarnon, Finnegan, Rutherford, Arnott
Subs: Larkin, Redpath & Hughes
The Rec entertained the Rangers in this Border Regiment cup match played at Ashley Park. Good new is that the Rec start with the same 11 that opened against Newington on Thursday night past.
The first ten minutes were evenly contested with neither side carving out a clear cut chance. A Rangers free kick on eleven minutes was ably held by keeper Warnock.
21st minute – A long ball by Rutherford releases Arnott who hits a first time shot which is comfortably held by the Rangers keeper. The Referee who was being over fussy then booked Rutherford for a petty offence. The half ended with another half chance for the Rec when Rutherford takes another header wide of the post. Larkin replaces Hewitt in the 38 th minute.
2nd Half
At half time Colin Kerr was replaced by Redpath. The best chance of the game came as early as the second minute when Arnott in space on the edge of the six-yard line miss hits when a goal looked certain. 18th minute – The only goal arrived after good play by Redpath, running at the Ards defence slips the ball to Rutherford on the edge who side steps two defenders and plants home to open the scoring.– The last real chance falls to Arnott who hits a first time shot at the keeper.
Manager Moore was delighted with the win and proceeding to the next round of the Border. The players were still feeling the effects of a very hard match less than 48 hours ago. With two consecutive matches wins and two clean sheets is something to build on report Ivor, well done to the lads.
Man of Match: Ricky Rutherford
