Tuesday 24th August 2010
Team: Warnock, McDonnell, Larkin, Kerr, Fenton, Walsh, Hughes, Larmour, Redpath, Rutherford, Arnott
Subs: Finnegan, Carlin, Dickie
On a good sunny evening and with a great playing surface this match against Foundry was sure to be a test for the Rec to see if they would content for the championship this season.
The game started with Foundry on the attack and their first chance came on the 3rd minute. The Foundry no8 was given too much space and when well placed shot wide of the left hand post. A wake call if one was needed. The Rec came alive and the next chance came two minutes later, great battling by the Rec carved out an opening for Rutherford who when ready to shoot was denied by a great clearance from the Albert No3. Almost calamity when Larkin & Kerr get caught, a Larkin flick sees the Foundry No11 with a one on one with the Rec keeper. Warnock stands up well and makes a superb block with his feet to deny Albert the opening goal. 12th Minute – Michael Hughes plays a neat pass through to Redpath who cross is met by Arnott who should have hit the net. Another neat move involving four Rec players see the ball fall to Hughes who shots narrowly over the bar. The opening goal came on the 20th minute when after good Rec pressure the ball falls at the back post for Redpath to fire home fro 12 yds. A just reward for the Rec who were now taking the game to Foundry.
The game was hotting up and referee McLaughlin booked the Foundry No10 and very harshly Rutherford. 27th minute Neil Larmour is cautioned for a late tackle. 36th minute good play by Arnott, Rutherford and Hughes sees several half chances come to nothing.
2nd Half
The second half opened with the second goal for the Rec in the 3rd minute. Following a corner Rutherford gets a head to the ball and Kerr gets a second touch to plant home. Referee McLaughlin caused controversy when he sent off Rutherford for a second bookable offence. “Persistent foul play” was the referees call on this one. The challenge was tame compared to others made by Albert Foundry. The Rec continued to carry the fight and on 13th minutes Fenton floats to Hughes who again puts over the bar. The Rec keeper Warnock punches clear when under pressure by two attackers. 11th minute –Sub Finnegan replaces Redpath. From here on in Foundry pushed hard for an equaliser and with around half an hour to go pulled one back when the Foundry No 5 ran onto a corner ball at the back post to head in unmarked. This spurred on Foundry but the 10 man Rec were up to the task. Just at the end the Foundry No 10 also was red carded for persistent fouling which didn’t help a tiring team so Dunmurry held out for a deserved 2-1 win
